Install
Press one button and speak — text lands in the app you are using. Private mode keeps it all on your device. Dictate Pro adds long meeting transcripts with speaker labels and early access to new features.
Download for your platform, open Dictate, and allow microphone access. Hold your shortcut, speak, release. Dictate once on first run so the local speech model can download.
Windows 11. 64-bit PC with a microphone. Local transcription uses CPU or a supported GPU. Install Arc Forge Dictate from the Microsoft Store, open Dictate from the Start menu, allow the microphone, and dictate once for the local model download. See the Windows 11 support doc for full details.
Ubuntu / Debian. amd64, microphone, and a GTK desktop on X11 or Wayland. Download the amd64 .deb from above or GitHub Releases, then run sudo apt install ./Dictate*.deb from your download folder. Open Dictate from the app launcher and dictate once for the local model download. See the README install section for package and desktop details.
Source builds. Python 3.11 or 3.12. Use this path only when you need to build from the repository, not for the normal public install.
Clone or download the Dictate repository. On Debian or Ubuntu run ./install-ubuntu.sh; on other Linux run ./install.sh. Windows developer validation only: powershell -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -File .\install-windows-wizard.ps1 from the extracted source directory.
